"If you are able, save
for them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when
you are leaving for the places they can no longer go. Be
not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not
have always.
Take what they have left and what they have taught you with
their dying and keep it with your own. And in time when men
decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to
embrace those gentle heroes you left behind."
Major Michael O'Donnell- January

helicopter rescue- March 24, 1970

My High School,
Father Judge, located in
Philadelphia PA, has the legacy of losing more young men to the
Vietnam War than any other Catholic High School in the Nation.
Twenty-seven Father Judge Crusaders names are on the "Wall" at the
Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. Pictured below is the Memorial
located on School property so that the current students and all of us
can pause to remember those days and their sacrifices.

Temple University
After
I attended High School, I attended Temple University for two years.
While there I was enrolled in the ROTC program and studied under two
remarkable men. Both of these professional soldiers left for
Vietnam shortly before I did and both were killed soon after arriving
in country.

Ron
Vanlandingham was a classmate in the Fixed Wing Qualification course
that I attended in late 1971 and early 1972. We both ended up
flying the CH-47 Helicopter in Vietnam instead of fixed wing
airplanes, however. He was lost to a SA-7 missile.
Between
tours of duty in Vietnam, I was stationed in Germany with the 351st
Aviation Company flying the CH-34 and UH-1 Helicopters. Terry
Clark was a Captain assigned there as well and we flew many flights
together. Terry left the Army and started flying for Air America
back in Vietnam as a civilian this time. He was lost to a SA-7
missile also.

For All Our
Brothers Who Fell From The Sky
Darkness falls without a sound,
that mortal ears will ever hear,
a black lace curtain, swirling down,
the falling of a crystal tear.
So quick it cuts away the sun,
a teardrop on a candle flame,
and darkness comes to mark the place,
that's empty now but for a name.
But many times 'tween dusk and dawn,
half-hidden in the early mist,
we think of you as you once were,
bright and laughing, sunlight kissed.
